Minato Kanji

What does Minato mean?

The Japanese kanji for Minato is (港) and means Harbour. But can also be used for Port.

From old Japanese the word Minato is split into three parts. Mi (水 “water”) + Na (な "possessive particle") + To (門 “gate”). Thus, this is the place of the Water Gate.

This may upset some, but English speakers normally say the word incorrectly. Like, "Min" "At" "Oo". When instead try to think of it as "Me" "Not" "O".

Minato (港音) is also used as a first name, two kanji are used.

This is Minato (みなと) in hiragana, the Japanese phonetic lettering system.

Where in Tokyo is Minato?

When speaking to people online about Minato Club for the first time, a common theme is where is it? Thus people need context to gain clarity and understanding for locations. This map was made for people that have never been to Japan and have a very basic knowledge of Japan.

How it works is you click through the tabs on the left of the map, a little like a zoom button. The flashing red circles are called "Hotspots". If you double tap on them, an information window should pop-up on the map. If you then double tap on them again, it should make them go away.

Hopefully after playing with this for a little while, you should be able to locate Minato in the future on a map of Tokyo.
